I’ve spent more than 25 years working in IT — inside homes, small offices, and everywhere in between. I’ve set up networks for remote workers who just wanted their video calls to stop dropping, for small business owners who didn’t know their router still had its default password, and for homeowners who had no idea their smart TV was talking to servers they’d never heard of.

The pattern I kept seeing was always the same: most networks were never actually set up. They were assembled — one device at a time — until something broke, or until someone finally asked for help.

That’s the gap TechODash exists to fill.

Most cybersecurity content online falls into one of two camps. It’s either written for enterprise IT teams with a budget and a department, or it’s written to scare you into buying something. Neither approach is useful if you’re a remote worker trying to keep your home office secure, a small business owner without dedicated IT staff, or someone who just wants their smart home devices to stop feeling like a liability.

TechODash is my attempt to close that gap — calm, practical guidance that respects your time and your intelligence. No jargon for the sake of sounding technical. No scare tactics to manufacture urgency. Just the things that actually matter, explained the way I’d explain them to a friend.

Every guide on this site reflects something I’ve actually done — a mistake I’ve seen repeated, a fix that consistently works, a piece of hardware that’s worth the money and one that isn’t. If something doesn’t make the cut, it’s because I wouldn’t use it myself.
